The Morning Scar is played in two contrasting versions: the first as collected by Cecil Sharp from fiddler John Mason of Stow-on-the-Wold, Gloucestershire; then as an Irish reel. The other tunes are both
English reels unearthed by Dave Townsend: The Irish Hautboy is in the Kershaw manuscripts from Saddleworth, Lancashire; Slingsby’s Reel comes from an unnamed fiddler’s manuscript held at Cecil Sharp House in London.
